It’s so often the case that companies feel intimidated by their own web sites, unable to make the changes they know need to be made. Sometimes they feel trapped by their old webmaster, web host, technology, etc. Whatever the story, it always feels great when we get to step in and help an organization to get things back on track–and hopefully alleviate any negative feelings they may have had towards IT people!

The Asian American Literary Review (AALR) was recently in just such a bind. Their web site was being needlessly throttled by its web host–so much for “unlimited” everything, right?–and their previous webmaster had moved on to other projects. AALR reached out to Whebster to facilitate the migration of their complex WordPress-based site to a new host, as well as a company-wide move to Gmail. This meant squaring things with the old host, the new host, the domain registrar, and Gmail.

Well, AALR is now happily back up and running at full speed, and its board members are relieved to know that they have somewhere to turn for future technical assistance. We’re honored to have been able to help them get things back on track!

We’ve been hard at work in recent months on some more large programming projects for NASW (National Association of Social Workers, CA Chapter). Since our work mostly has to do with adding new features, particularly to their database and back-end, it’s not the type of thing that we can share with you visually; but we’re continually excited by the opportunity to work with such a good organization and make their lives easier with our code! Our current projects include a new shopping cart and coupon system; and an extensive, built-from-scratch content management system for their large body of online courses, which include multimedia course content as well as scored tests! All of this is being built on top of our meticulously-designed database.

Meanwhile, the delicious work continues merrily on at Hoagy Steak. We recently helped them design and source a new outdoor hanging sign which has been garnering lots of praise from customers and neighboring businesses. Their menu has received the Whebster treatment as well. Take a peek!

We’re happy to report that we’ve just recently wrapped up work on the first phase of a multi-phased programming project for NASW-CA, the National Association of Social Workers, California Chapter.

It was a month-long job that involved completely restructuring and normalizing their database, migrating all their data to the new tables, and updating hundreds of pages of code to interact with the new tables using stored procedures.

Sound like Greek to you? Well the short version is that their web site is a lot faster, more secure, user-friendly, and ready for new features to be added now. And the other short answer is that it was all done on-time, on-budget, and with pride.

We look forward to working with NASW-CA on the next phases of this continuing project in the near future. This was our first foray into using ColdFusion, so it was great to add that experience to our toolkit!
